This dataset contains long-term monitoring data for vocalizing anurans (frogs/toads) at seven national park units in the Great Lakes region. Anurans and other amphibians are sensitive ecological indicators of both conservation concern and regional relevance. Declining amphibian populations are among the most prominent global issues in conservation biology today. Having both aquatic and terrestrial life stages, amphibians serve as watershed-scale integrators and sentinels of changing environmental conditions (e.g., regional weather patterns, biogeochemistry, land use and cover). As a bioindicator of wetland ecosystem health, the Great Lakes Inventory and Monitoring Network conducts acoustic monitoring of 14 species of vocalizing anurans at wetlands in seven national park units during their breeding seasons to track long-term trends in site occupancy, breeding phenology, and taxonomic richness.
