Notes
Park Species Detail: Britt, 1993: Alosa aestivalis, blueback herring (anadromous, native)Blueback herring are native to the East Coast of North America, from Florida into Canada. They are an anadromous species that occur in most coastal rivers from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to St. Johns River, FL during spring spawning migrations. Blueback herring choose spawning sites more./ selectively than do alewives. Blueback prefer a hard substrate and deep swift water.
Blueback herring migrations still occur in Rock Creek./, Park Species Data Source: Britt 1993
