Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. Flowers white. May-July. Fresh marsh, also in disturbed wet sand in full sun. Infrequent on Assateague, widespread but in very small populations. See Vegetation Mapping Report. (Higgins #143). Slides: B18-9 to B18-12. MD & VA?/
Lea, 2000: Members of the genus are often favored by mowing, (provided plants are not consistently mowed before reproduction has been completed),and S. vernalis is often locally frequent in mowed roadside areas in the National Seashore developed zone. /
