Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) and Long (1987) report this species in areas adjacent to the park.
Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if any observations were within park boundaries.
Long (1987) Best location on MDI is on the meadows bordering Northeast Creek.
Russell (1984?) common spring through fall.
Bond (1969) best location on MDI is in the Emery District.
Bond (19??) rather rare summer resident.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Local summer resident on MDI.
Sullivan (1937) Summer resident from May to September; common in suitable locations near Town Hill, Hulls Cove, and Somesville.
Farley (1935) reported 20 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931) Observed on Mount Desert Island during June & July 1931; a pair reported on a high farm in the center of the northern part of MDI on July 2, 1931; also a male west of Hulls Cove on 9 July 1931.
Eliot (1916): Reported this species at Bass Harbor 35 years ago.
Allen (1899): "One seen at Bass harbor, Aug. 21, (1880?), by C.W. Townsend."
