Notes
Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. Fruits from past season. June-Oct. Fresh marsh, tolerant of salty soils also, and likely to be found in disturbed wet sands anywhere. Frequent on the island, and frequent throughout MD. Reported by Higgins also as J. scirpoides var. compositus Harper, a synonym. There were no Higgins specimens at MARY. Her report of J. canadensis may have been based upon this species. (Higgins #127, 128). A difficult species to identify, very similar to J. canadensis (#54), J. torreyi (#64), and J. megacephalus M.A. Curtis (not reported, but expected). MD & VA.
