Notes
Park Species Detail: Fleming, 2003: Particularly troublesome because of their shade tolerance and aggressive growth habits; a problematic exotic of the Basic Oak-Hickory Forest community. Found in 15 of 35 study plots./Townsend, 2006, personal communication: Symphoricarpos oriculatus is construed as native south of our area, but it is behaving as a nasty invader in Virginia, and presumably farther north. The species may be like Phragmites, having both an invasive (non-native?) form and a native, non-invasive form, each looking so much like the other that they pass as the same thing. The species could easily have varieties, forms, cultivars, or whatever that are used widely in the horticulture trade, and from there to the woods./, Park Species Data Source: Fleming, 2003; Belden, 1998 Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable.
