Notes
Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Inflorescence green, leaves inflated, round, septate. June-Oct. Perennial herb. Fresh marsh, also disturbed wet soil. Apparently rare on Assateague, seen only at HiWins cabin opposite Tingles Island, but frequent throughout MD overall. Only one Higgins specimen seen at MARY (8/28/65) without a specific location. Similar to J. scirpoides Lam., but looser-flowered. Reported from VA by Harvill (1967). (Higgins #118) MD & VA. / Hill, 1986: (referring to Juncus scirpoides Lam.): Native. Perennial herb. June-Oct. Fresh marsh, tolerant of salty soils also, and likely to be found in disturbed wet sands anywhere. Frequent. Reported by Higgins also as J. scirpoides var. compositus Harper, a synonym. There were no Higgins specimens at MARY. Her report of J. canadensis may have been based upon this species. (Higgins, #127, #128). MD & VA. Hamilton, 2004: Voucher specimen probable at CNWR./, Park Species Data Source: Hill, 1986
