(1998): Reported this species during searches of watersheds within the park during 1997. Woods (1997): 22 were observed from Cadillac Mountain during 37 days of observations between 2 September and 14 October 1997. Woods (1995): 5 were observed from Cadillac Mountain during 31 days of observations between 28 August and 17 October 1995. College of the Atlantic (1988): 7 were observed from Beech Mountain during 27 days of observations between 12 September and 12 October 1988. Major (1987): 15 were observed from Beech Mountain during 75 days of observations between 31 August and 15 November 1987. Major and Mittelhauser (1986): 11 were observed from Beech Mountain during 76 days of observations between 30 August and 13 November 1986. Long (1987): Several nests have been found on MDI (no details given). North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) Rare resident, uncommon in flight years. 1972 was a good flight year. They can be seen migrating from the Cadillac Mountain summit, and Bass harbor Light. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Baird (1983) recorded from Beech Mountain during the fall of 1980. Bond (1969) summers in relatively small numbers on MDI. Long (1951) a nest was found at the base of Western Mountain on 3 May 1950 containing 3 fresh eggs. Palmer (1949) Nest with downy young found on 2 June 1937 on MDI (Tyson and Bond, 1941: 56). Bond (19??) rare resident; more numerous as a transient and winter visitant; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Rare summer resident; Several pairs nest every year on MDI, more numerous during fall.
