Park Species Detail: Wiegand, 2001b: an uncommon watchlist plant occurring in elevated areas of scour prairie and overwash savanna habitat where soils are well-drained and often dry during the growing season. Indian grass (Sorghastrum nutans) is scattered throughout the higher prairie and savanna habitats, but is not particularly abundant. It is a large and showy grass species, difficult to overlook when flowering. Found at 1 site. A watch list (and otherwise uncommon) plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.), Park Species Data Source: Maxon, 1935;Wiegand, 2001b
