Park Species Detail: Shriner (2001) provides the most recent published records; Alsop (2001) considers this a breeding species in the park; juveniles caught at Tremont and Cades Cove in 2001 are unlikely to have originated from outside the park (Tremont MAPS database); Park O ATBI Sensitivity = Public Species Notes: Common Permanent Resident; Breeds in Park; Formerly in genus PARUS; transferred to POECILE by AOU (1997). See DeBenedictis (1987, Birding 19:42-45) for review of hybridization between P. CAROLINENSIS and P. ATRICAPILLUS; the two taxa hybridize freely wherever they meet and easily could be regarded STATUS: Native, Breeder, Common, Present in Park;; ; General Notes: Shriner (2001) provides the most recent published records; Alsop (2001) considers this a breeding species in the park; juveniles caught at Tremont and Cades Cove in 2001 are unlikely to have originated from outside the park (Tremont MAPS database); Park Observations records indicate this is a year-round resident; one park specimen is missing from the park collections; Chicago Academy of Sciences houses one park specimen.
