Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, Chris April, 2000: This species was found for the first time on Assateague by Roeder in 1998, with 35-40 plants growing in a "shrub bog" (poor fen) (which may be a state rare plant association type). The current Maryland Heritage Biodiversity Conservation Program rank is S?. The species is fairly widespread, but uncommon and habitat-restricted (acidic wetlands) in the state. Any Assateague populations would likely have little influence on the state rank./ Lea, Chris (2003): Pogonia ophioglossoides (L.) Ker Gawl. ROSE POGONIA. Orchidaceae. Present in both MD and VA ends. Native. Perennial herb. May-Jul. Bog. Rare. Pogonia ophioglossoides is a "Watchlist" (uncommon) species (Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Division 2001). Collector ID # Lea 856./, Park Species Data Source: Lea, 2000: Converted from ASIS ANCS(+) by the I&M Office
