Park Species Detail: Checklist information (residency) updated 4/11/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. Jones (1986) lists a single observation from MDI, at Bass Harbor during late February 1972. Long (1987): Rare resident on MDI; Russell (1984?) Accidental, has bred. 1 found dead at Seawall Campground on 29 February 1960 (Riddle); a bird in Bar Harbor in the last week in February 1972 (R. Soper). Probably more common than records indicate. Bond (1969) have been heard on a few occasions, but there have been no daylight records during the past 50 years. Bond (19??) possible resident, very rare. Tyson and Bond (1941): one taken on MDI.
