Occurrence Notes
A fairly common permanent resident of mixed conifer forests on the Kaibab Plateau and an uncommon and apparently irregular resident of ponderosa pine forests on the South Rim and elsewhere in the region. Clark’s Nutcracker is an irregular wanderer in other habitats and at lower elevations, where it may appear in large flocks, as with a flock of 100 seen at Navajo Point on 21 Jun 2008 (Brian P. Gatlin). Some years see large winter invasions, but most records from lower elevation habitats are from spring and fall. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
