Nativeness Notes
Although this species is native to North America, it is not endemic or indiginous to YNP. Its occurrence in the park is essentially accidental and well outside its accepted range (McEneaney 2004, NatureServe 2006, Sibley 2003), possibly resulting from human release (Dorn and Dorn 1999). This suggests that it does not, and probably never did, regularly occur in the park. Thus, its nativity in the park is uncertain and best classified as unknown or non-native.; Data Source: Doug Keinath-Lead Zoologist-Wyoming Natural Diversity Database
Abundance
Seasonality Tags
  • Vagrant
Listed by Dorn and Dorn (1999) as having only one, unverified occurrence in Wyoming (in Jackson Hole). Listed by McEneaney (2004) as having less than 20 observations in the last 50 years. Sibley (2003) shows the main range along the west coast, with occasional occurrences as far east as Utah and Wyoming does not fall on migration routes, suggesting vagrant rather than migratory.; Data Source: Doug Keinath-Lead Zoologist-Wyoming Natural Diversity Database McEneaney's 2004 checklist does not confirm presence. There is no accepted records of this species occuring in YNP; Data Source: Lisa Baril - YNP ornithologist.
