Notes
Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Shrub to perennial vine, stems weak but erect. Flowers white. May-June. Shrub succession, disturbed sands, margins of woodland. Frequent throughout Assateague, and quite variable. Frequent in MD, mostly coastal plain. The blackberries are a difficult group to identify since they hybridize easily. This treatment is very conservative, and includes the plant called Rubus arundelanus Blanchard in the Vegetation Mapping Report and the plant reported by Higgins as R. pensilvanicus Poir. The problem is similar to that of the blueberry. (Higgins #227, 230). MD & VA.
