Occurrence Notes
A fairly common summer breeding resident of forested areas along both rims. It is frequently seen in the summer along the rim between Desert View and Grand Canyon Village. Breeding was first confirmed in 1996, and nests are often located in pockets of mixed conifer forest below the South Rim. Zone-tailed Hawk had been recorded only five times in the region at the time of the previous checklist (Brown et al. 1985) but has undergone a significant range expansion. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
