Park Species Detail: Terrell, 1970: Swampy places in area 3 (3 (Lock 10 to Carderock, north parking lot), ); fl. Late May. Lea, 2000: Carex albolutescens Schweinitz (Green-white Sedge)Frequent. Edges of forested vernal pools, where one of the characteristic taxa. It is of primarily Coastal Plain distribution in Maryland. Hitchcock and Standley (1919) have misapplied the name C. straminea to this species, while C. albolutescens of Hitchcock and Standley (1919) evidently represents C. longii Mackenzie, a Coastal Plain species. Rothrock (199 1) describes morphological differences and nomenclatural confusions between this and related species.
