Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) considered this a common breeder on MDI.
Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996.
Long (1987): Common on MDI.
North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986.
Russell (1984?) common spring though fall; maximum fall count of 11 at Otter Point on 16 September 1969 (W. Russell); species is common along the west slope of the Beech Hill Road and in the deciduous forest between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake.
Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984.
Bond (1969) No nests in the Ship Harbor area, but nests have been located in other portions of MDI.
Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird.
Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Common and widely distributed on MDI; present at Black's Woods.
Sullivan (1937) Abundant summer resident from May to October (Pellew).
Farley (1935) reported 25 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Anthony (1933): 2 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933.
Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, less generally distributed. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 3 June 1915 and 31 May 1916.
Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924.
