Occurrence Notes
A common summer resident of mainstem riparian habitat. In winter, it remains a common resident below RM 174, but is uncommon upriver from there to Glen Canyon Dam. Black Phoebe is also an uncommon summer resident in tributary riparian habitat, and appears as an uncommon spring and fall migrant anywhere there is open water. Most spring birds arrive by early April, while fall migrants have been seen on the South Rim from 2 Aug to 5 Sept. One seen at Hearst Tanks on the South Rim on 28 Jun 2006 (Brian P. Gatlin, Madeline C. Tighe, Carol Tepper) was likely a very early fall migrant or post-breeding wanderer. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011.
