Park Species Detail: Lea, 2000: Carex cristatella Britton (Crested Sedge)Rare. In moist swales in open channel-shelf woodland at Chain Bridge Flats, in open fresh tidal swamp at Roosevelt Island, and in marsh at edge of canal near Cropley. Historically found along Difficult Run and at Plumrners Island. This species has been listed as a watchlist species in Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program, 1994), but is possibly to be considered more rare. It is considered rare in Virginia (Killeffer, 1999). This is the first report for this species for the District of Columbia. Late May to early July. 1072,2094 (US); 1197,1212 (MARY); 1220 (Tawes); 2095 (Frost). Wiegand, 2001b: Found in Fletchers Floodplain Survey Site. A Possibly Extirpated (SH) plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.)
