Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Often seen around villages on the northeastern portion of MDI. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; rare in winter; maximum spring count of 5 around Witch Hole Pond on 9 May 1973 (W. Russell et al.); virtually restricted to the burnt lands on the northeast portion of MDI; the road by New Mill Meadow is a good spot to find this bird. Favour (1970): Observed on 20 December 1958 during the MDI CBC at the feeding station of Mrs. Carl Harmon in Manset. Also 3 different birds were observed on 26 December 1959 during the MDI CBC at Bar Harbor, Seal Harbor, and McKinley. Bond (1969) rarely seen on MDI before the fire of 1947; now they occur on the burnt lands. Palmer (1949): 2 occurrences reported on MDI (Tyson and Bond). Bond (19??) vagrant from the south (2 records, one in June).. Tyson and Bond (1941): One seen at Seal Harbor (no details) and one seen June 18, 1934 at Great Head.
