Park Species Detail: Terrell, 1970: Infrequent; areas 1 (Beginning of Canal in Georgetown to Chain Bridge, D. C.), 4 [Carderock to Cropley (parking area near Angler’s Inn)], 7 (Great Falls to Swain’s Lock), 8 [Swain’s Lock to Pennyfield Lock (north end)],. May. Wiegand, 2001b: An uncommon plant species occur in slightly more elevated areas of overwash savanna and woodland habitat, where flooding is less frequent and less intense. Lyre-leaved sage (Salvia lyrata) is scattered across the higher prairie and savanna habitat . . .Although not especially abundant, it is widespread, and it may be more abundant than indicated here. Found at 2 sites.
