Park Species Detail: Checklist information (Park Status, abundance) updated 4/8/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. Witt (1997) and Long (1987) report this species in areas adjacent to the park. Long (1987): Southern species that has recently become established as a summer resident on MDI. Breeding on MDI, but no specific records within park boundaries. Favour (1970): observed during the MDI CBC on 31 December 1965 at Annie Clark's feeder in Southwest Harbor; also observed on 28 December 1969 at Miller Gardens in Bar Harbor. Bond (1969) southern species that has become established as a summer resident on MDI since the fire of 1947. Palmer (1949) Has occurred one year each at Great Head, Bar Harbor, and Somesville. Bond (19??) vagrant from the south; 3 records from 27 April to June. Tyson and Bond (1941): Seen May 26 and 27, 1924 at Bar Harbor, seen at Somesville in June 1891, and banded at Great Head. Sullivan (1937) rare transient; seen 26 and 27 May 1924 at Bar Harbor; also seen at Somesville in June 1891 by Allen. Eliot (1931) observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 4 June 1916. Eliot (1916) reported this species at Somesville in June of 1891.
