Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, C. April 2000:This grass, reported by Hill from a single location in the State Park, was searched for by the authors in the area that Hill (1984) had described fairly precisely. The searchers had not seen it before, but covered the area fairly thoroughly. It is not known whether this species is restricted to Assateague in Maryland. If so, then the species would be somewhat precarious in the state, since it is obviously a small population, if extant. Although somewhat secluded from present visitor use and park operations, the occurrence should be given special attention in planning and management. Based on Assateague occurrences alone, no rank change is recommended. If future searches fail to find it, and this proves to be the only known Maryland occurrence, a rank of SH (SH=- Historically known from the state, but not verified for an extended period, usually > 15 years; this rank is used primarily when inventory has been attempted recently)should be considered by the Maryland Heritage Biodiversity Program./
Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. Aug.-Oct. Pine woodland. Very rare on Assateague, seen only in State Park. See Vegetation Mapping Report. Very rare in MD overall according to MD Natural Heritage Program. Not reported by Higgins. MD only. Slides: B8f-54, B8f-55./, Park Species Data Source: Lea, 2000
