A rare to uncommon permanent resident of a variety of habitats from Great Basin grasslands and desertscrub to low elevation desertscrub along the Colorado River. It has recently expanded its range upstream to Lees Ferry (Sogge et al. 1998). Irregular visitors are seen on both rims in all seasons, including one in the mixed conifer forest of the Walhalla Plateau in summer (C.J. Grimes) and one at Desert View with a foot of snow on the ground on 20 Dec 2009 (Linda Wagner, Joe Cox). Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011.
