Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, 2000: Carex jamesii Schweinitz (James' Sedge)Common. In floodplain forests and open channel-shelf woodlands, most frequently on finer-textured (silt loam) soils. This species of calcareous soils is narrowly restricted to the Potomac River corridor in this area. It has been listed as a watchlist species for Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program, 1994), but can be locally common in parts of the state. Late April to mid-June. 464, 1337 (US); 465, 1137 (Tawes);1560 (Grfa); 10448 (Frost). Wiegand, 2001b: A previously reported occurrence for Jame's sedge (Carex jamesii), listed as a highly rare sedge species in D.C., was successfully updated during 1999-2000 field surveys. C. Lea (Pers.Comm. 1999) reported the species was likely scattered throughout floodplain forest… No additional survey effort to relocate this species at Chain Bridge Flats was made during 1999-2000.Status surveys for Jame's sedge are highly recommended to fully determine its current status at Chain Bridge Flats. Found at 5 sites. A Highly Rare plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C. Also listed in Maryland. Wiegand, 1995: Reported during this survey from Sandy Hook west to Cumberland., Park Species Data Source: BioBlitz, 1997-Chain Bridge Flats;Lea, 2000;Maxon, 1935;TNC, 1999;Wiegand, 2001b;Wiegand, 1995
