Notes
Park Species Detail: Fleming, 1993: Recommendations. The impressive mature forests and the many rare and uncommon species at Turkey Run Park seem to occur through a combination of riverside location and slight human usage. To maintain the fine natural communities found here, it is important to keep public access limited. My recommendations are:
1) Continue current land use (no further recreational developments or parking lots)
2) Do not improve the trails (construction of the ZigZag trail destroyed several colonies of Dicentra cucullaria, eroded the hillside, muddied the stream, and allowed easier access to the floodplain forest.)
3) Do not make new trails. Never construct the Dead Run trail or make easier access to the upland areas west of Turkey Run.
4) Think carefully before allowing any heavy machinery into the park (The bulldozer involved in the removal of oil cans from the ravine in Area B scoured the foreset floor, destroying the natural vegetation and causing run-off into the ravine. This scour is only a few hundred feet from a newly found colony of Arabis shortii, a state-rare plant., Park Species Data Source: Fleming, 1993
