Notes
Park Species Detail: There is some debate about whether S. chrysomelas and S. carnatus are different species. The two morphs are almost always distinguishable by color and they largely inhabit different depth ranges. However, they are nearly identical in other ecological and morphological characteristics, and cannot be distinguished genetically. This information from Love, M.S., M. Yoklavich and L. Thorsteinson. 2002. The Rockfishes of the Northeast Pacific. U.C. Press. Berkeley. Page 142., Park Species Data Source: Marine Biological Consultants. 1971.
