Occurrence Notes
A casual spring, summer, and fall visitor to riparian habitats within the canyon. Although it has been seen at Tuweep Ranger Station and in Havasu Canyon, most records are from along the Colorado River. Recent records are: a male at Lonely Dell Ranch at Lees Ferry from 24 May to 4 Jun 1997 (Lori S. Bush, Christine E. Goetze), an adult female at Parashant Wash (RM 198) along the Colorado River on 22 Jul 1994 (Sogge et al. 1998), and another female at Lonely Dell on 5-6 Oct 2009 (Shaun Putz). While Brown et al. (1985) noted that Vermilion Flycatcher’s range has expanded northward, it remains extremely scarce. The only nearby evidence for breeding is from just north of the region near Fredonia (Troy Corman). Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
