Tulane University voucher specimens by Darwin #1969 and Dowling #289 for Barataria Unit and Bretting #127 and 108 for Chalmette Unit were examined and redetermined to be Symphyotrichum praealtum by D.M. Ferguson (2008). LSU voucher specimen for Barataria Unit by Maliakal #171 as misidentified (as Aster praealtus) and redetermined to be Symphyotrichum praealtum by D.M.
