Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) and Long (1987) report this species on MDI, but no specific observations within park boundaries are listed.
Long (1987): No nesting observed on MDI, although birds singing in June in suitable habitat have been observed.
Russell (1984?) rare fall migrant, casual in winter; early fall date was 27 August 1972 when 1 was observed at the north end of Eagle Lake 9E. Hastings).
Favour (1970): Observed on 10 December 1961 at Don McPheters feeder in Northeast Harbor.
Bond (1969) may breed on MDI occasionally.
Palmer (1949) For MDI "Tyson and Bond (1941) considered it a rare transient and probably a local or an occasional summer resident, but more recently, Bond (1947b: 24) wrote that he had never seen the species in Washington or Hancock County."
Bond (19??) vagrant from the south, may have nested on MDI, no recent records.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Observed July 6th on Flying Squadron Mountain (no other details given).
