Notes
Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) and Long (1987) reports this species in areas adjacent to the park. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): In woodlands, observed more frequently than any other species. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common resident, irregularly more numerous. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Favour (1970): This species was abundant in the woods on MDI during November 1961. Allen (1969): singing males observed (presumably on territory) at Western Point, also a bird was observed "fussing as though nest were near" at Western Point. Possibly nesting at Western Point (Allen 1969). Bond (1969) abundant on MDI, during midsummer may be encountered more frequently in woodland than any other species. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird; also observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the winter of 1958/59 and/or 1959/60. Long (1951) a nest found at Valley Cove on 23 May 1950. Palmer (1949) Mrs. E.A. Anthony banded one bird at Bar Harbor on 15 April 1934 and retrapped it on 24 September 1936, 12 April 1937, and 31 December 1937. Bond (19??) fairly common resident, often abundant during fall migration; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common on MDI during summer; abundant in late summer and early fall; nest taken on MDI (no details). Sullivan (1937): Uncommon resident Farley (1935) reported 1 pair on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Anthony (1933): 27 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild; some years abundant, some years rare. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 11 August 1916.
