Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Annual succulent herb. Frequent in saltmarsh, turning red in autumn. Aug.-Oct. Salt marshes, salt pans and washes. Frequent to abundant throughout Assateague on bayside. Frequent in coastal MD. One of the most characteristic salt marsh plants, with attractive red fall color in Sept.-Oct. (Higgins #174). MD & VA.
