Notes
Park Species Detail: Long (1987): Mainly confined to the northeastern part of MDI, between Fresh Meadow and Duck Brook. Also seen at the outlet of Seal Cove Pond. Russell (1984?) Most readily found on the northern part of MDI, especially along Northeast Creek, Hamilton Pond, and New Mill Meadow. No nests have been located, but on at least one occasion, a recently fledged bird was seen (J. Bond, 1971). Uncommon spring through fall. Bond (1969) appears confined to the northern part of MDI between Fresh Meadow and Duck Brook; nested on Hamilton Pond, where in early July 1968 and adult and fledgling were observed. Palmer (1949) "one seen October 3, 1915, at Somesville, Mt. Desert Island (Tyson and Bond, 1941: 53)." Bond (19??) Casual visitant from the south. Tyson and Bond (1941): Not seen for many years, seen at Somesville on Oct. 3, 1915. Sullivan (1937): Extremely rare summer resident. Eliot (1931): observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 3 October 1916 at Somesville., Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997); Long (1987); Russell (1984?); Bond (1969) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Witt (1997) only record of breeding on MDI is at Hamilton Pond. Also recorded in Long (1987). Adamus (1983) breeding scattered throughout southern Maine, possibly breeding in northern Maine; approaches the northern edge of this breeding range in Maine.
