Notes
Park Species Detail: Checklist information (residence) updated 4/11/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist.
Long (1987): Only active nest found on Mdi was found outside of the park between Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor Marsh.
Russell (1984?) casual spring migrant and accidental breeder; 4 records in the last week of May; a nest with 5 eggs was found between Bass Harbor and Southwest Harbor on 30 June 1971 (J. Bond); seen in the tall grasses at the edge of Bass Harbor Marsh.
Bond (1969) occasional summer resident on MDI; individuals were seen in suitable habitats near Seal Cove and Sieur de Monts Spring, but there have been very few records since 1940. Probably that this species has nested here, but no hard evidence of this.
Palmer (1949): seen 5 October 1944 on Big Heath by A.E. Brower; also breeding in a bush-covered pasture on MDI (Tyson and Bond 1941: 26).
Bond (1949): In June 1938, 2 or 3 pairs inhabited a bush covered pasture between Fresh Meadow and Hulls Cove.
Bond (19??) local summer resident (pasture near Hall's Mills); apparently absent in some years.
Tyson and Bond (1941): 2 or 3 pairs nesting in a pasture between Fresh Meadow and Hull's Cove.
Sullivan (1937): One seen on northeastern MDI by C. Farley, R.A. Herbert, and J.J. Hickey on 14 June 1934.
Farley (1935) reported 1 pair on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934., Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997); Russell (1984?); Palmer (1949)
