Park Species Detail: Checklist information (abundance, residency) updated 4/11/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. Witt (1997) reports that this species is an occasional fall migrant. Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was recorded within park boundaries. Russell (1984?) accidental spring migrant, casual fall migrant; breed within 50 miles of MDI. Bond (1969) vagrant on MDI during late spring. Bond (19??) occasional summer visitor, may have nested in Bar Harbor. Tyson and Bond (1941): Possibly an occasional summer resident in the villages on MDI; seen and heard in Bar Harbor (no details given). Sullivan (1937): Summer resident, locally distributed, but not common. Often seen and heard in town of Bar Harbor according to Miss Boyden (Pellew). Eliot (1931) Not observed on MDI during June or July 1931 but previously reported from the island; reported in other years from Southwest Harbor., Park Species Data Source: Long (1987); Witt (1997) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Long (1987): Nest and fledged young observed in the vicinity of Sieur de Monts Spring during June 1980; no other details of this observation are given. Adamus (1983) breeding throughout Maine, less common in northern and coastal areas.
