Park Species Detail: Lea, Chris (2003): Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsumara & Nakai. WATERMELON. Cucurbitaceae. Present in both VA and MD ends. Introduced (waif), originally native to Asia. Annual herbaceous vine. Aug. Wash and salt pan. Rare. Undoubtedly originating from seed discarded by park visitors.
