Park Species Detail: Breeding is reported on MDI (Witt 1997), but no specific nesting observations are given within park boundaries. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): species is often heard into the fall. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; maximum spring count of 11 in the Sieur de Monts Spring area on 13 May 1967 (D. Gallinat); The Beech Mountain Trail, the Acadia Mountain Fire Road, and the Western Mountain Fire Road are typically good locations. Bond (1969) present in coniferous woodlands on MDI. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird. Palmer (1949): nest and young observed on 20 June on MDI. Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common on MDI. Sullivan (1937): Common summer resident; most noticeable in May, remains until October; nest with young observed on 20 June 1924 (no location given). Farley (1935) reported 2 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931) Uncommon in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; once about half as common as the Red-eyed Vireo; only 1 pair noted noted north of the golf-links; also observed northeast of Seal Harbor and northwest of Somesville. 6 were observed in July. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 14 June 1916 and 2 June 1916.
