Park Species Detail: Considered an uncommon breeder on Mount Desert Island (Witt 1997), although no nesting records given within park boundaries reported.
Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996.
Russell (1984?) uncommon spring through fall. One bird observed at Otter Point on 3 October 1969 (W. Russell). Usually found in the vicinity of Sieur de Monts Spring.
Bond (1969) occurs in alder thickets and scrubby country throughout MDI and is particularly numerous in the vicinity of Sieur de Monts Spring; a nest was discovered in a viburnum shrub on the slope of Cadillac Mountain in early June (no year given).
Bond (19??) fairly common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Long (1951) an individual found dead in Tremont on 14 July 1950.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Annually present on MDI; most in evidence during July.
Sullivan (1937): Very rare summer resident from May to September; observed near Echo Lake and along the Wire Gate Trail in June 1934 (Farley).
Farley (1935) reported 2 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931) Rare in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; a pair breeding at Somesville. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 15 June 1915.
Allen (1899): rather common on MDI between 1880 and 1899.
