Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Favour (1970): Observed on 21 December 1958 at "Bar Harbor". Bond (1969) found in freshwater swamps and bushy borders of lakes and ponds on MDI. Palmer (1949) 4 fresh eggs seen on 31 May 1931 on MDI. Bond (19??) locally common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common in summer at Fresh Meadow. Sullivan (1937) summer resident from April to November; rather common in suitable meadows. Farley (1935) observed 3 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Uncommon in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; colony in the Long Pond Meadows is probably our only one.
