Notes
Park Species Detail: Many nests have been found on MDI (Witt 1997), no records given for within park lands. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987) cliff and tree nests have been found, no other nesting details given. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) Common resident; Consistently seen on the east and west faces of Western Mountain, particularly the east face as viewed from the Southwest Harbor dump, and on the west slope of Champlain Mountain. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) found virtually everywhere near the coast and on the higher mountain slopes. Davis (1961): Observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the summer of 1959; also observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the winter of 1958/59 and/or 1959/60. Bond (19??) fairly common resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Long (1951) a nest with 2 young was found at Valley Cove on 23 April 1950. Tyson and Bond (1941): Many ravens on MDI; pairs often nests on the cliffs of Beech Mountain, Valley Cove, Champlain Mountain, Hunter's Head, and Great Head; Often seen soaring above Long Pond. Sullivan (1937): Not uncommon resident; nests on Long Pond on Beech Mountain Ledges; young in nest at Hunter's Head (see observation). Eliot (1931) Rare in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R.
