Notes
Park Species Detail: Rodda & Dean-Bradley set up capture grids for the green anole in the Agan, Asan and Piti units of WAPA in 2001. No anoles were found in the grassland plots. In the Tangantangan plots, anoles were found only in the Agat unit, at observed densities of 100 lizards/ha. The authors state that this recently introduced species is no longer abundant on Guam, probably due to brown treesnake predation (sleeping anoles are extremely vulnerable to the stealthy approach of the arboreal snake). This may account for its relative rarity in their samples from Guam (absent from 16 of 18 total plots on Guam). However, it is present in low numbers at Agat, suggesting that brown treesnake densities are unusually low there, although direct evidence on this point is not yet available. The National Park Service has a WAPA photo gallery that shows pictures of lizard species that are found in the park, including the green anole, photo taken by USGS.
