Notes
Park Species Detail: Checklist information (nativity) updated 4/11/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist. NOTE: Historic references to Sharp-tailed Sparrows, Acadian Sharp-tailed Sparrows, Ammodramus caudacutus, and Ammodramus caudacutus subvirgata should all refer to Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow (Ammodramus nelsoni). Note that Nelsons Sharp-tailed Sparrow includes the following subspecies (A.C. nelsoni, A.c. alterus, and A.c. subvirgatus). The Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow includes the following subspecies (A.c. caudacutus, and A.c. diversus). Witt (1997) suggests that future migrant sharp-tailed sparrows should be scrutinized especially closely for the possibility of Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow (Ammodramus caudacutus), but does not report any current or historic records of A. caudacutus in the MDI area. Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Sibley (2000) summer resident in south-coastal Maine.
