Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was recorded within park boundaries. Long (1987): Most common at Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall. In the fall, they tend to follow the shoreline and such concentration areas as Otter Point is a fine spot. Bond (1969) most prevalent in the vicinity of Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor, especially at gardens. Davis (1961): Observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the summer of 1959. Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common summer resident on MDI, particularly numerous about Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor; abundant behind Sieur de Mont Spring in late May and early June. Sullivan (1937): Summer resident; very common from May to September (Pellew). Farley (1935) reported 1 pair at Southwest Harbor, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, less generally distributed; seen more often in July than in June. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 22 June 1915. Allen (1899): not very common on MDI between 1880 and 1899., Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997); North and Chidester (1986); Russell (1984?); Davis (1961); Tyson and Bond (1941) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Common breeder on MDI (Witt 1997), although no nesting records for park properties. Adamus (1983) breeding throughout Maine, including the ANP region.
