    Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial succulent herb. Fruits green with rose tint. May-June. Infrequent but widespread on Assateague, found mostly in the shrub succession and edge of woodland. Infrequent in MD overall, mostly coastal or on barrens. (Higgins #288). Plant edible, including flowers and fruits, but protected by small detachable spines that are very irritating and difficult to remove from skin and clothing. MD & VA. Slides: B58-15 to B58-17./
