The eastern mole ranges the entire eastern United States and both Carolinas (Whitaker, 1980; Webster et al., 1985). In York County I found this species in the following topographic map quadrangles: Catawba, Clover, Edgemoor, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, Rock Hill East, Rock Hill West and Van Wyck. Penney (1950) also reported Scalopus aquaticus in York County . In addition, Lee et al. (1982) reported Scalopus aquaticus in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Habitats included residential lawns, pasture, roadside grassy areas and oldfield. I obtained data for Scalopus aquaticus primarily through sighting of molehills. Other sources reported success with pitfall traps (Golley, 1966); harpoon mole traps, or modified live traps for moles (DeBlase and Martin, 1981).; Data Source: Fields 2000
