Collections of Desmodium were identified using a vegetative key developed by Krings (2004). Heuchera determinations were made using the Key to Heuchera in West Virginia (Norris 1999). Monarda specimens were determined using The Flora of the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, and Surrounding Area (Weakley 2006).
