Park Species Detail: The Great Meadow area is considered a good area for this species (Witt 1997).
Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996.
Long (1987): widely distributed and numerous on the burnt lands on MDI.
Russell (1984?) common spring migrant and breeder, uncommon fall migrant; maximum fall count of 3 at Sieur de Monts Spring on 29 August 1973 (W. Russell); the New Mill Meadow road and Sieur de Monts Spring are typically good localities for this species.
Bond (1969) species has increased on MDI since the fire of 1947.
Present in the Ship Harbor area (Bond 1955).
Palmer (1949): observed collecting nesting material from 1-3 September 1937 at Great Head.
Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Common and widely distributed on MDI.
Sullivan (1937) Rather common summer resident from May to September.
Farley (1935) reported 17 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931): Uncommon in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; present on the north side of Sargent Mountain. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 6 June 1916.
