Cole (1940) found foragers and nests in standing dead trees throughout the park. MacGown and Hill collected this ant in an open mixed pine-hardwood forest along the Hyatt Lane cutoff in Cades Cove.

Park Species Detail: Scope = ATBI Pilot Study; Sample Code = MT02; Determiner = 163; Determination Date = 2002; Preservation Method = Pinned; Watershed Name = LeConte Creek; Label = ATBI Plot, Twin Creeks; Place Name = Twin Creeks; Site Directions = The ATBI Plot is adjacent to the parking area at the upper building at Twin Creeks. From the front porch of the upper building at Twin Creeks, there is a wooden foot bridge crossing the creek at the East end of the parking area. Cross the foot bridge and walk along the gravel bar up stream about 15 feet. There is a small trail that leads to the ATBI Plot.
