Notes
Park Species Detail: Witt (1997) and Long (1987) report this species in areas adjacent to the park. Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was recorded within the park. Long (1987): 5 nests have been found, although no details on the locations or dates of these observations; Mentions a pair at Fernald Point Road. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) Rare resident; Best spots for this species appear to be in the big woods near Beech Hill and near Fernald Point (species nested here 2 years in succession). Bond (1969) rare on MDI; encountered most frequently on the western side of MDI; at least 5 nests have been found on MDI; on 2 successive years, a pair occupied a birch stub near the road to Fernald Point. Bond (19??) very rare resident on MDI; much more numerous on the mainland. Tyson and Bond (1941): Possibly an occasional nesting bird on MDI, Pair seen on Beech Mtn, June 1932., Park Species Data Source: North and Chidester (1986); Russell (1984?); Tyson and Bond (1941) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Breeding on MDI (Long 1987) although no records of nests within park boundaries.
